New challenges: Softslide and Mouldtex

New European projects have been launched in this intense 2017, which has seen ML Engraving participate in three international fairs and the conclusion of INFINITE. ML Engraving’s expertise in engraving techniques and its ability to face ever-new technical changes makes it the perfect partner for industrial projects focusing on Research and Development.

Since its inception, ML Engraving made investments in research a priority, and this is confirmed by the successful European projects it is currently pursuing.

The first of which is INFINITE, a project that has led to the creation of a new engraving process consisting of Raptor software and a robotic machine with artificial vision, as well as two new projects launched in 2017: Softslide and Mouldtex.

These projects involve international partners and promote technological development with a view to increasing competitiveness on the international market.

SOFTSLIDE

Project ID: 760680

Title: Industrialization and commercialization of mass production processes for texturing during the moulding of dynamic seals in order to increase the energy efficiency and durability of industrial equipment.

Objective:  the consortium intends to introduce a new type of high-performance gasket on the market, which overcomes the major limitations of current gaskets mounted on rotating structures, aimed at reducing energy losses (of 25%) due to friction.
A reduction in friction forces will also lead to longer life of the gasket. Measurements and analyses will be monitored by state-of-the-art centres equipped with the latest-generation tools and software.

The working team involves five partners, including companies and research centres:

  • ML Engraving, that also acts as coordinator of the project
  • SKM Aeronautics Ltd (Israel)
  • Reagent (UK)
  • Ita Innova (Spain)
  • Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universitaet Hannover (Germany)

The Softslide project is part of Fast Track to Innovation (FTI), the only measure in the Horizon 2020 programme that provides funding for close to market, business-driven projects aimed at reducing time from idea to market. For this reason, the projects financed must come to market within three years after the start date of the action.

MOULDTEX

Project ID: 768705

Title: Friction optimisation of seals through advanced laser surface texturing of moulds.

Objective: Mouldtex aims at applying laser engraving to nanotechnology in order to increase the efficiency and durability of moulded products. This project will focus greatly on research, analysis and testing (materials, laser sources, components, equipment, software) in order to develop a new technology. Find out more at www.mouldtex-project.eu

The Mouldtex project will involve nine international partners:

  • ML Engraving Srl
  • ORP STAMPI srl (Italy)
  • Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universitaet Hannover (Germany)
  • Tecnologias Avanzadas Inspiralia sl (Spain)
  • Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (Greece)
  • Optimal Optik Optikai kft (Hungary)
  • SKM Aeronautics Ltd (Israel)
  • Plastipolis (France)
  • Ita Innova (Spain)

Mouldtex is part of the Factories of the Future (FoF) initiative of the Horizon 2020 programme and outlines routes towards high added value manufacturing technologies for factories of the future, which will be high performing, environmentally friendly and socially sustainable.

Stay tuned to discover all the progress made with these two projects.
