On September 3-5 London was transformed into the most important innovation engine of the rubber field thanks to IRC - International Rubber Conference, sponsored by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). Various topics were covered: new innovations on compound compositions, industrial applications, friction and sustainability.
The 2019 edition was particularly significant because it was the 200th anniversary of the pioneering work on natural rubber by Thomas Hancock, also the inventor of the first masticator, right in the English capital.
One hundred and sixty speakers presented important innovations in the world of rubber during the 3 days of the event in 4 sessions in 3 halls at the same time, while more than 60 companies exhibited their services and capabilities in the entrance hall.

The focus and size of the event set the stage for the worldwide presentation of the results of
Softslide which as cited by the payoff Friction Management Solution, is a system of capabilities and technologies to manage friction in seals for moving systems and other moulded parts.
ML Engraving together with the project partners: SKM Aeronautics (Israel), Reagent Chemicals (UK), University of Leibniz (Germany) and Technological Institute of Aragon (Spain) took part in the exhibition with a stand entirely dedicated to
Softslide with presentations, brochures and samples of seals.
On the first day of conferences Dr. Matthias Wangenheim also held a speech in the “Friction and Erosion” session speaking of the project and its results, highly approved by the audience.
The project, which originated within the Horizon 2020 programme for technological innovation has now entered an operating phase to be really brought on the market as a cutting edge solution for solving problems connected with friction where traditional solutions (additives, lubricants and changes in compound) have not provided satisfactory results or cannot be used due to intrinsic problems for the component or its application.
Numerous contacts were made with end-users, seal manufacturers and even compounders and associations that receive friction-related questions from their customers every day.
